“The Bold Boxer” dog portrait – Acrylics on board

“The Bold Boxer” is quite different from my other dog portraits. He was created during an art workshop (Animals in Speed Acrylics) which I attended in Newmarket run by Tindalls  Art & Crafts and tutored by Lois Cordelia. Lois demonstrated many useful and interesting techniques: using coloured mount boards as backgrounds to enhance your subject; speed painting of animals using acrylics; focusing on lighter areas to created depth.

The majority of my pet portraits are done in a realistic style, using traditional colours. I deliberately chose to use bright, unnatural colours while I worked on the boxer’s head shot. I love the colours: a mixture of dark blues, pink and white highlighted by shimmering pink, light blue and gold. I am pretty happy with this handsome boy.

Size: 20 x 27” – 510 x 680 mm (framed)
